Why Homeowners Are Switching

Your Water Bill Is Too High. Your Supply Is Too Uncertain.

Across Texas and the Southwest, municipal water rates are rising and drought restrictions are tightening. A properly sized rainwater cistern gives you a reliable, lower-cost water supply for irrigation, livestock, household use, and emergencies.

The Old Approach

  • Paying full municipal rates for every gallon used on landscaping and irrigation
  • Relying entirely on a well or municipal supply during drought restrictions
  • Concrete cisterns that are permanent, expensive, and take weeks to install
  • No warranty, no documentation, no compliance support from the installer
  • Above-ground tanks that look out of place and drag down property value

The Aqualine Approach

  • Collect free rainwater from your roof for irrigation, livestock, and household use
  • Maintain a reliable reserve even during municipal restrictions or well shortfalls
  • Bolt-together galvanized steel panels, installed in days, not weeks
  • 20-year no-leak guarantee backed by a factory warranty
  • Three roof styles and DuraCoat color options that complement your home and satisfy HOA requirements

Liner Specification

The Bartlett DST Liner: NSF/ANSI 61 Certified

A steel cistern is only as durable as the liner inside it. These tanks ship with a woven polyethylene potable-water liner manufactured in an NSF/ANSI 61 accredited facility. It is not an off-the-shelf product — every liner is custom-fitted to the tank.

  • NSF/ANSI 61 — Potable Water Certified

Manufactured in a Bartlett-accredited NSF61 facility. BPA-free and phthalate-free. Suitable for potable water contact applications.

  • Flex Tested to 400,000 Cycles

Multifilament woven construction resists shrinking, stretching, and tearing through repeated fill/drain cycles. Unsupported liners are not rated for this kind of service life.

  • Double Seal Tape Welded Seam

Proprietary seam construction adds a tape layer over the welded joint for additional barrier protection against tree root and pest intrusion — not available on standard flat-stock liners.

  • Custom-Fitted to Every Tank

Each liner is precision-cut and fabricated to match the specific tank diameter and roof profile ordered. No field-cutting or splicing required at installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit to install a rainwater cistern at my home?

In the southwest, most residential rainwater harvesting systems are permitted and encouraged; Texas law actually protects your right to collect rainwater. Requirements vary by county and municipality. In New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and California, rules differ by jurisdiction. One Clarion provides permit documentation to support your application wherever you are.

How much water can my roof collect?

The standard formula: roof area in square feet × annual rainfall in inches × 0.623 × your runoff coefficient (typically 0.85 for metal or tile roofs). A 2,000 sq ft home in an area with 20 inches of annual rainfall can yield over 20,000 gallons per year. Use the yield calculator on this page for your specific numbers.

Will the tank look good next to my house?

Aqualine offers three roof styles; Dome, Low Profile 10°, and Standard 30°, along with DuraCoat custom exterior color coatings and wood or stone cladding for the dome roof profile. These options make it possible to match virtually any home aesthetic or meet HOA requirements.

What happens to the tank if I move?

Unlike a poured concrete cistern, a bolted steel tank can be disassembled and reinstalled at your new property. It is not a permanent fixture, it can move with you.

Can I use harvested rainwater inside my home?

Yes, with the right setup. The Bartlett DST liner is NSF/ANSI 61 certified for potable water contact. For indoor household use you will also need appropriate filtration and treatment before the water enters your plumbing. For outdoor irrigation and livestock use, the water can be used directly from the tank with no additional treatment required.

How big a tank do I need?

It depends on your intended use. For landscape irrigation on a typical residential property, a 5,000 to 15,000 gallon tank covers most needs. For whole-home backup supply or larger irrigated acreage, 25,000 gallons or more is common. Your One Clarion Sales Specialist will help size the system based on your roof area, rainfall, and daily demand.

How long does installation take?

A typical residential cistern installation takes one to three days once the base pad is prepared. Aqualine offers turn-key installation; their crew handles the full job. No field fabrication, no welding on-site. The compacted gravel base is the standard foundation requirement.

Is the tank safe for my kids and pets?

Yes. The liner is BPA-free, phthalate-free, and certified for potable water contact. The standard access hatch is bolted closed and the tank is fully enclosed, so there is no open water exposure.
